Overview
Touch2Learn is a finished custom modification of Sony’s Toio tangible robot platform designed to support accessible spatial communication of basketball play replays for blind and low-vision users. I redesigned the platform around a hot-swappable side attachment system and improved electrical pin connection reliability based on the HERMIT architecture, transforming the robot into a reusable tactile communication device for educational and accessibility-focused play interaction.
Contributions
- Accessible Sports Replay Communication: Adapts the Toio platform for tactile, spatial communication of basketball play information in a way that supports blind and low-vision users.
- Mechanical Redesign: Introduces a modular side-attachment system enabling quick swapping of different physical interfaces and supporting rapid iteration on interaction design.
- Research Prototype Completion: Brings the system from concept through iterative prototyping and final working hardware, making it suitable as a finished research artifact for user-facing evaluation.
